About the event

Join DC Jazz Festival & JAZZAlive at The University of the District of Columbia's Theater of the Arts when Allyn Johnson and Orrin Evans return for an exciting evening of duo piano performance. Joining these stellar musicians is an all-star rhythm section featuring Michael Bowie on bass and Quincy Phillips on drums.

A two-time Grammy nominee and Pew Fellow, Orrin Evans has been recognized as one of the most distinctive and inventive pianists of his generation. One of the goals of Evans’ residency has been to promote a musical/cultural exchange between DC and Philadelphia. "Making music has always been an essential part of my life but presenting music is also a passion,” said Orrin Evans. “The chance to create and fellowship with the music scene in DC is a welcome one, and I am so excited about the possibilities.”

Often referred to as the “Dean of DC Jazz,” Allyn Johnson is one of Washington, DC’s most revered and influential musicians with a reputation as one of the most versatile pianists in the region. As Director of Jazz Studies, Allyn is delighted that Orrin is returning to the University of the District of Columbia and is “...once again looking forward to sharing music with my brother.”

Performance by DC Jazz Festival Artist in Residence Orrin Evans is made possible by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
